AXA Mansard Insurance, a subsidiary of the AXA Group, is emphasizing the need for the development of Nigeria’s health insurance system.
During AXA Mansard’s virtual conference, themed “Wellvolution: Health for the Wealth of Our Nation,” Professor Pat Utomi, the keynote speaker, underscored the importance of a robust health insurance system.
The conference commemorated AXA Mansard’s 10th anniversary.
Addressing the significance of good health, Utomi stated, “When wealth is lost, nothing is lost, but when health is lost, something/everything is lost. Canada understands the value of a functioning health system, which is why it is considered one of the best places to live globally. This is because it prioritizes its healthcare system. Community and rural health should be prioritized because health represents not just wealth but prosperity for human progress.”
The conference was attended by dignitaries, including Dr. Misbau Oleolo, Country Manager and Chief Medical Director of AXA OneHealth Limited; Gloria Ibeziako, Associate Director & Head of People, Performance & Culture at KPMG; Iyin Aboyeji, Investor and Techpreneur; and Dr. Yakubu Agada, General Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority in Abuja.
The conference was moderated by Jumoke Odunlami, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at AXA Mansard Insurance Plc.
Odunlami emphasized the immeasurable impact of good health and how it serves as the inspiration for the company’s theme, “Wellvolution: Health for the Wealth of Our Nation,” for the year.
Discussing the connection between technology and health, Aboyeji, a techpreneur, explained that healthcare systems can become more accessible to all with the help of technology. He emphasized how technology can effectively increase access to health insurance by providing the right information to make it easily accessible to people.
Oleolo expressed his understanding of why medical doctors often leave Nigeria to practice abroad, citing the limitations within the Nigerian healthcare system that hinder expansion.
