The Ministry of Health has reassured the public that the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) remains operational while the government finalizes plans to introduce the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health, stated that despite delays in launching the new health insurance scheme, NHIF services are still available for use.
Muthoni emphasized that the forthcoming Social Health Insurance scheme aims to provide more comprehensive benefits, ensuring that the public can access healthcare facilities without discrimination. She highlighted that the fund is designed to cater to all Kenyans, including those at the grassroots level.
“NHIF has served Kenyans for a long time, but the introduction of the Social Health Insurance Fund aims to provide better healthcare access for ordinary Kenyans, especially those without jobs or with limited income,” said Muriuki.
The PS also stressed the need for collective efforts in combating drug and substance abuse, which continue to affect society and deprive it of valuable human resources.
