Global: Western Health Embarks on Comprehensive Workplace Modernization with Logicalis Australia

Western Health in Victoria, a prominent healthcare provider serving nearly a million people, is embarking on a substantial modernization effort for its IT infrastructure. Following a thorough tender process, IT solutions provider Logicalis Australia has been awarded a contract to support Western Health in its Modern Workplace transformation program. This initiative, as stated in a recent media release, is aimed at enhancing collaboration, communication, security, and document management capabilities throughout the organization.

Western Health has been confronted with several technical and end-user challenges related to its existing infrastructure. These challenges include disjointed processes, ineffective tools, as well as limitations in storage and computing resources. In response, the organization initiated a digital transformation and modernization program, placing patient data and identity as its central focus.

Aside from its goal of improving operational efficiency and enhancing the quality of care provided, the Modern Workplace program establishes a solid foundation for data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), enabling Western Health to harness the power of data for further advancements in patient outcomes, according to Cameron McBride, Director of Digital Technology Services at Western Health.

The journey of digital transformation commenced last year with the reconstruction of Western Health’s identity management system, a project also executed by Logicalis. This system, built on Microsoft Active Directory, manages identity, authentication, and authorization for all network users and IT resources.

The successful reconstruction of the identity management system paved the way for the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system within Western Health. Furthermore, a records management solution was introduced to enhance document management and compliance.

Logicalis also played a pivotal role in Western Health’s integration of Microsoft 365, facilitating secure and efficient work for both in-office and remote employees. Additionally, the IT company bolstered the organization’s Microsoft Azure cloud environment to ensure a robust and scalable infrastructure.
