Global: Saudi Arabia Launches Initiative to Advance Diagnostic Lab Equipment and 3D Printing in Hospitals

In a move to drive innovation and reduce healthcare costs, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has launched an initiative focused on the development of diagnostic laboratory equipment and the integration of 3D printing technology in hospitals. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, SFDA’s Chief Executive Officer, announced the initiative on Wednesday at the SFDA’s pavilion during the Global Health Exhibition 2024 in Riyadh.

This new initiative aims to boost research, development, and cost efficiency within medical laboratories and hospitals. It is also part of a broader effort to strengthen the national healthcare industry. The diagnostic lab equipment and reagents provided under this program will be designated strictly for diagnostic and therapeutic use within healthcare facilities, rather than for commercial distribution.

Aligned with the SFDA’s mission to promote innovation and support local industries, this initiative underscores the agency’s commitment to empowering national researchers and investors. It represents a step forward in enabling Saudi Arabia’s healthcare sector to produce advanced medical solutions while enhancing sustainability and reducing reliance on imports.
