Nanyang Technological University Singapore has unveiled plans to enrich the curriculum of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine with additional AI and digital health-related courses.
Starting next year, digital health will be incorporated as vertical courses within the five-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program. These courses encompass medical data science, data analytics, and AI.
The updated curriculum aims to provide students with a strong foundation in the ethical and legal aspects of AI and healthcare informatics. Students will gain awareness of the limitations and benefits of these technologies, along with hands-on experience in AI and medical technologies like telehealth, health apps, wearables, and personalized molecular medicine.
The medical school will also introduce more tech-enabled learning tools, including virtual reality for teaching the cardiorespiratory system and e-simulators for drug prescription and electronic medical record usage. These tools are designed to prepare students to become adept and confident users of technology in their roles as doctors.
Furthermore, the program will incorporate an expanded scope of medical humanities to equip students with essential skills to critically engage with technology, manage clinical uncertainty, and adapt to changes in healthcare practice.
