Global: AWS and Philips Expand Collaboration to Accelerate Cloud Migration for Healthcare Systems

Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have strengthened their partnership to enhance healthcare innovation through cloud technology. This expanded collaboration aims to accelerate the migration of Philips’ integrated diagnostics portfolio to the cloud, benefiting healthcare systems worldwide.

Cloud-Enabled Diagnostics Expansion

Building on the successful transition of 150 sites across North and Latin America to Philips HealthSuite Imaging on AWS, the partnership will now extend its cloud migration efforts to Europe. The initiative focuses on deploying Philips’ integrated diagnostics portfolio, which encompasses radiology, digital pathology, cardiology, and artificial intelligence (AI) visualization tools.

Driving Efficiency and Better Care

Philips CEO Roy Jakobs emphasized the importance of this collaboration in streamlining clinical workflows:

“We’re working closely with clinicians to ensure workflows become more efficient, giving back valuable time to healthcare providers. Partnering with AWS enables us to innovate faster and deliver better care for more people.”

By utilizing AWS cloud infrastructure, Philips’ solutions provide a unified, secure platform that integrates diagnostic data from diverse sources. These tools offer healthcare providers remote access to diagnostic and workflow orchestration resources, fostering a more collaborative and efficient care environment.

Generative AI for Enhanced Healthcare Delivery

Philips is also exploring the integration of generative AI to automate routine tasks and improve clinical workflows. For instance, clinicians can leverage conversational AI to create and update diagnostic reports, enhancing the speed and quality of patient care.

AWS CEO Matt Garman highlighted the benefits of the collaboration:

“Combining Philips’ healthcare informatics portfolio with AWS generative AI capabilities gives clinicians access to imaging insights, enabling more effective and efficient care delivery, anywhere, anytime, with industry-leading security and privacy.”

Broader Impacts of AI in Healthcare

This initiative is part of AWS’s broader focus on healthcare innovation. In a separate collaboration, AWS partnered with GE HealthCare to leverage AI for improving diagnostic accuracy and promoting equitable care access. GE HealthCare will utilize AWS’s healthcare AI services to enhance diagnostic capabilities and screening outcomes.

Additionally, AWS introduced AWS HealthScribe in July 2023, a tool that uses generative AI to automate clinical documentation. By generating transcripts, extracting key medical details, and creating summaries of doctor-patient interactions, the tool aims to save clinicians valuable time and improve patient outcomes.

Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Technology

The expanded collaboration between Philips and AWS exemplifies how cloud and AI technologies are revolutionizing healthcare. By offering scalable, secure, and innovative solutions, the partnership supports clinicians in delivering high-quality, efficient, and accessible care, setting a new benchmark for digital transformation in the healthcare industry.
