Leading healthcare authorities and industry specialists gathered at AfriSummit 2024, a pivotal four-day hybrid event focused on enhancing pharmaceutical and medical device regulations. Held at the Grand Nile Tower, the summit aimed to advance regulatory frameworks across Africa and included specialized training in eCTD and pharmacovigilance.
The event drew over 300 delegates and featured more than 80 thought leaders from regulatory, legal, manufacturing, and distribution sectors. Dr. Rasha Ziada, Assistant Chairman of Egypt’s Drug Authority (EDA) for Professional Development and Capacity Building Affairs, inaugurated the summit, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to helping other African nations achieve WHO Maturity Level 3. “Achieving this level is not just a milestone but a responsibility to support other African countries in reaching the same standards,” Ziada said, underscoring the EDA’s dedication to safeguarding medicines and supporting cross-border regulatory collaboration.
The summit featured discussions on innovative drug trials and approval processes, highlighted by workshops on eCTD Training and Pharmacovigilance. Dr. Mona Al Moussli, Chairman of AfriSummit, remarked, “This year’s event showcased invaluable insights from industry leaders, emphasizing the need for regulatory harmonization across Africa to create a more unified healthcare framework.”
Dr. Najiba Al Shezawy, Co-Chairman of AfriSummit, expressed gratitude for the strong participation of African health authorities, noting, “The engagement and contributions from African National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) are crucial for strengthening our regulatory structures and promoting collaboration across the continent.”
