Edan Instruments, Inc., a global leader in medical technology innovation, underscored its commitment to inclusive healthcare solutions at the Geneva Health Forum (GHF) 2025 Satellite Symposium, held as an official side event to the World Health Assembly (WHA).
Themed “China’s Medical Technology Innovation and Its Implementation for Global Health”, the symposium took place on May 20, 2025, in Geneva and was co-organized by Tsinghua University and the Université de Genève. The event brought together stakeholders from across the health ecosystem — innovators, policymakers, and development agencies — to examine how China’s medical technology sector is contributing to equitable healthcare access, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Speaking on behalf of EDAN, Co-Founder Mr. Xicheng Xie delivered a keynote address highlighting the company’s three-decade journey of translating advanced medical innovation into practical, accessible solutions for frontline healthcare delivery.
“True innovation isn’t measured by technological sophistication alone — it’s about delivering the right tools to the people who need them most,” Mr. Xie emphasized, reflecting EDAN’s long-standing philosophy of value-driven design and community-centered deployment.
As part of its showcase, EDAN presented a number of impact-focused initiatives, including the deployment of its Nano Series handheld ultrasound system in resource-constrained regions. This initiative aims to empower primary healthcare workers with tools for early prenatal screening, enabling timely referrals for at-risk pregnancies and reducing maternal and neonatal mortality.
Mr. Xie also introduced other key technologies tailored for infrastructure-limited settings, such as:
-
Palm-sized fetal dopplers for remote maternal health monitoring
-
The EDAN IQ intelligent algorithm to enhance diagnostic accuracy
-
A smart ECG web platform to support decentralized cardiac care
With a global footprint spanning Europe, Africa, and Latin America, EDAN operates 22 subsidiaries worldwide to ensure localized engagement and responsive service delivery. This presence enables the company to integrate end-user feedback into continuous innovation, ensuring that its solutions are responsive to real-world clinical needs.
EDAN’s commitment extends beyond product deployment. The company is actively engaged in collaborative programs with NGOs, public health institutions, and multilateral organizations to drive healthcare access and capacity building. Current initiatives include:
-
Maternal and women’s health programs in South Africa
-
Portable diagnostic device rollouts in West Africa
-
Ultrasound screening collaborations in Latin America
Each year, nearly 1,000 ultrasound systems are deployed through NGO-led initiatives, backed by EDAN’s training and technical support to bolster local healthcare capacity.
“At EDAN, we believe innovation must serve humanity. Our focus is on building solutions that are not only advanced but also accessible, affordable, and impactful,” Mr. Xie concluded. “As we mark our 30th anniversary, our mission remains clear — to deliver innovation that transforms lives, especially in the communities that need it most.”
As global health systems continue to evolve in response to both emerging and long-standing challenges, EDAN’s work at the intersection of technology, accessibility, and development partnership represents a model for sustainable, scalable healthcare innovation.
