The Africa Data Hub (ADH), in partnership with Orodata Science, a civic-tech organization, has launched the second phase of its survey to evaluate 1,000 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) across 10 Nigerian states.
In a statement released on Monday, the organizations outlined that this phase of the survey will focus on collecting and analyzing data related to the quality of services and accessibility of healthcare at these facilities.
“This next phase will involve data collection from over 1,000 additional PHCs in 10 new states, raising the total number of surveyed centres to over 1,500,” the release noted. The initiative aims to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of healthcare quality and access throughout Nigeria.
The states involved in this phase include Ogun, Edo, Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), Kwara, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Abia, Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe. This follows the success of ongoing data collection efforts in Anambra, Benue, Cross River, Osun, Sokoto, and Taraba states.
The expanded survey seeks to:
- Assess the availability and quality of services at PHCs
- Evaluate the condition of healthcare infrastructure and facilities
- Identify resource constraints and gaps in service delivery
- Provide critical data-driven insights for policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to enhance healthcare services across the country
Uche Oti, Programme Officer at Orodata Science, emphasized the importance of the project:
“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right. By expanding this survey, we aim to provide both citizens and policymakers with actionable, data-driven insights that will help improve Nigeria’s primary healthcare system and ensure equitable access to essential health services.”
The data gathered from the survey will contribute to the development of comprehensive reports, interactive visualizations, and support advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare systems. This information will be made publicly available through checkmyphc.org, a new platform designed to give Nigerians real-time access to data on the status of PHCs in their communities.
Orodata Science also extended an invitation to qualified Nigerians to join their research efforts, encouraging applications for involvement in the initiative.
