Muhammad Pate, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, announced that the federal government will soon release Nigeria’s inaugural state of health report. This announcement was made during a media conference in Abuja, focused on the upcoming health sector joint annual review (JAR).
According to Pate, the report is the result of extensive surveys and data collection conducted by various departments and agencies within the ministry, aimed at assessing Nigerians’ perceptions of the healthcare system and its effectiveness.
He noted that this report will serve as a foundational resource for ongoing health sector reforms, allowing for more informed decision-making and targeted interventions moving forward.
The findings will be reviewed at the JAR scheduled for November 6 to 8, which will gather key stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners, and development partners, to evaluate the progress of Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
The review will particularly focus on critical areas such as maternal and child health, access to primary healthcare, and efforts to combat diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.
Pate emphasized that the JAR, coordinated through the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp), aims to facilitate continuous dialogue among agencies, parastatals, development partners, and the media. This collaborative effort will promote accountability, track progress, and foster a cohesive “One Health” narrative for Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
