Intron Health has secured $1.6 million in pre-seed funding to further develop its AI-driven healthcare solutions. This funding follows the company’s success in creating a clinical speech recognition service with a 92% accuracy rate for medical terminology, even with heavy accents.
Founded in 2020, Intron Health aims to digitize healthcare, reduce patient traffic, and improve clinical efficiency. The company leverages localized voice technology to revolutionize healthcare and explore applications in other sectors.
Operating in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda, Intron Health supports Electronic Health Records (EHR) and alleviates the documentation burden in clinical administration. Despite its achievements, many African languages and accents are still not supported by the service.
Intron Health serves over 30 public and private hospitals, including Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Hospital, Babcock Teaching Hospital, and Meridian Healthcare Group in Nairobi, delivering care to over 56,000 patients.
The company has compiled Africa’s largest clinical speech dataset, featuring over 3.5 million speech clips from multiple specialties and domains, covering over 200 accents from more than 18,000 contributors in 29 countries.
Intron Health plans to streamline call center operations, generate social media content, perform biometric verification, and offer voice tools for mental health and patient education. Their ambient listening technology aims to eliminate several hours of clinical documentation.
Additionally, Intron Health intends to introduce clinical automatic speech recognition (ASR) tools, commonly used in developed markets, to further enhance healthcare delivery in Africa.
