Mobihealth International, a leading health technology company from Nigeria, has secured a spot in the Barclays Black Venture Growth programme, an initiative backed by the UK government.
In a statement, it was revealed that this programme is designed to support 20 of the UK’s most promising scale-ups in the fields of technology and innovation annually.
The selected businesses, as outlined by the program’s organizer, Foundervine, will receive customized assistance in business development and investment readiness to help them expand their promising ventures.
Mobihealth is dedicated to addressing the myriad challenges within Africa’s healthcare sector through its integrated telehealth solution. This solution grants users in Nigeria access to affordable and high-quality healthcare via their mobile phones, computers, and specially designed walk-in teleclinics. These teleclinics aim to combat the significant shortage of medical professionals across the continent.
Dr. Funmi Adewara, the CEO of MobiHealth, emphasized the company’s focus on improving healthcare accessibility in rural areas, where challenges can be particularly acute. She noted that individuals in rural regions often face inequitable access to healthcare due to factors such as age, multiple health conditions, and limited mobility. Health facilities are often distant, and transportation is both a logistical hurdle and an expensive endeavor.
Adewara highlighted that Mobihealth has deployed solar-powered, internet-enabled telehealth clinics in rural areas. The company has also partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to implement its services in various Nigerian communities.
Participating in the Barclays Black Venture Growth Accelerator programme is expected to bolster Mobihealth’s strategy within the UK Diaspora market. Furthermore, the program will help the company gain increased visibility among potential investors.
