Visa has expanded its footprint in digital assets by launching a validator node on the Tempo blockchain, joining Stripe and Zodia Custody (backed by Standard Chartered) as early external validators on the network.
Tempo, a payments-focused blockchain incubated by Stripe and supported by crypto investment firm Paradigm, is designed to power high-volume, low-cost stablecoin transactions for real-world financial services use cases. Since its unveiling in September, the platform has progressed rapidly—initiating mainnet testing in December with partners such as Visa and Mastercard, before going fully live in March.
Visa’s validator node has been developed and operated in-house, following six months of collaboration with Tempo’s engineering team to integrate its infrastructure directly into the network. By taking on a validator role, the payments giant is actively participating in transaction verification and network security.
The move positions Visa at the core of Tempo’s validation layer, where it will function as an anchor validator during the network’s early stages. This role is expected to support system resilience, reliability, and performance as the platform scales to meet growing demand for stablecoin-based payment solutions.
Cuy Sheffield, Head of Crypto at Visa, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader strategy to extend its trusted infrastructure into blockchain ecosystems.
“By operating a validator on Tempo, we’re reinforcing our commitment to reliability, security, and trust in emerging blockchain networks, while supporting the development of stablecoin payment systems that meet enterprise-grade standards,” he said.
Tempo’s architecture is built to address key limitations in existing blockchain networks, particularly around scalability and transaction costs, making it more suitable for mainstream financial applications.
Visa’s participation signals increasing convergence between traditional payment networks and blockchain-based infrastructure, as global financial institutions explore new rails for faster, more efficient digital transactions.
